On a day when most Duck fans were focused on the conclusion of the Oregon Relays, the biggest news came from Walnut, California.
Oregon’s redshirt junior Jenna Prandini shattered records in her performances at the Mt. Sac Relays. She started things off in the women’s 100 meters after crossing the finish line in 10.92. Prandini’s performance gives her the leading mark in the world, an Oregon school record and places her second all-time on the collegiate list.
“You are talking about number two all time, leaves you speechless and breathless the fact she can go out and do those things,” Oregon head coach Robert Johnson said at Hayward Field.
Prandini then followed that up with another world leading time and school record in the women’s 200, finishing in 22.44.
“What she is able to go out there and do is phenomenal, couldn’t be happier and prouder of her,” Johnson said.
For Prandini the focus on shifts to the NCAA Championships, where she will potentially double in the 100 and 200 on the same day.
Another Duck ran well in the 100 as well, though she was overshadowed by her teammate’s performance. Jasmine Todd crossed fourth in 11.03.
“That is a phenomenal effort by her,” Johnson said.
Both Prandini and Todd also competed as part of the women’s 4×100 relay, with Sasha Wallace and Marybeth Sant rounding out the team. They finished fourth with a time of 43.79.
Wallace had a rough moment later in the meet when she went down during the 100 hurdles. She tripped on the sixth hurdle, falling to the track and failing to finish the event.
“Have to come back and retool, figure out some things to get those next four hurdles out of the way,” Johnson said.
Sam Crouser finished third in the men’s javelin (251-10) and Jillian Weir placed tenth in the women’s hammer (209-08).
