Herman is currently a hot name among the coaching vacancies in college football, notably linked to the University of South Carolina last week and the University of Georgia this week.
At a Board of Regents meeting on Nov. 19, the board approved a measure allowing for the renegotiating of Herman’s contract, including a new base salary of at least $3 million.
In his first season as a head coach, Herman has found great success, leading the Cougars to a 11-1 regular season record, an American Athletic Conference West division title and a spot in the AAC Championship game this Saturday.
If the Cougars claim their first conference championship since 2006, they stand to earn a bid to a New Year’s 6 Bowl, with the strongest possibilities being the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta or the Vizio Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix.
UH will square off with Temple University next Saturday inside of TDECU Stadium in the first-ever AAC Championship game. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m.
