Jillian Alleyne and Maite Cazorla helped power Oregon to a weekend sweep against Utah and Colorado.
On Monday, the two swept the conference’s weekly player and freshman of the week awards.
Alleyne was named the conference’s player of the week for the third time this season. She averaged 26.5 points and 15 rebounds over the weekend and was 55.6 percent from the field. Against Colorado, she had 26 points in 39 minutes and had 27 points against Utah. She also broke Bev Smith’s career double-double record of 88 and leapfrogged into second all-time in Oregon points after the win over Utah.
“When she goes after a rebound, it’s a beautiful thing to watch, it really is,” head coach Kelly Graves said after Oregon’s win last Friday.
Cazorla earned the freshman of the week award for the third straight week. She posted averages of 16 points and 4.5 assists in Oregon’s weekend sweep of Utah and Colorado. She also shot 50 percent from both the field and 3-point range while recording six total steals. In addition, she was a combined 11-for-14 from the free throw line.
Against Colorado, Cazorla matched her career-high in scoring with 23 points and had the first seven points for the Ducks. Just a freshman, Cazorla ranks No. 7 in Oregon single-season history with 146 assists. She ranks No. 19 nationally in assists per game (5.8) and first among freshmen in the NCAA.
“Maite is just playing amazing,” Oregon sophomore guard Lexi Bando said after Oregon’s win on Friday. “She stayed really composed. … She just handles pressure really well.”
Both Cazorla and Alleyne have been integral as of late for the Ducks, who have won eight of their last nine and five games straight. The five-game streak is the program’s longest in conference games since Oregon won the Pac-10 title during the 1999-2000 season.
