Women’s tennis junior Despoina Vogasari was named American Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week today for the sixth time in her career.
This is the first time Vogasari has won the award this season. The last time she won the award was on Feb. 10, 2015.
Vogasari’s award comes after helping the Cougars to two doubles victories. Vogasari also picked up a key singles victory in the team’s upset win over No. 51 New Mexico this weekend.
Vogasari defeated Andrea LeBlanc on the No. 1 singles court 6-3 and 6-2 to give Houston one of the points that led to the overall 4-3 victory.
Vogasari also teamed with senior Rocio Martin to defeat New Mexico’s No. 1 doubles team, Dominique Dulski and Emily Oliver, 6-2.
The same duo won a doubles match 6-3 against Brown University’s No. 1 pair, Dayna Lord and Alyza Benotto, securing Houston’s fourth consecutive doubles point, but the Cougars fell in the match overall.
The Cougars return to the John E. Hoff Courts Friday to face the Tulane Green Wave at 1 p.m.
