At a program where the mantra is “Win Every Day,” head coach Steve Wojciechowski won a spot on three-star recruit Hasahn French’s list of 13 remaining schools.
While French, 6-foot-7, is slightly undersized for a power forward, his strong post play easily negates his height disadvantage. As a result, Scout ranks him 20th among power forwards. ESPN and 247 rank the Springfield, Mass., native as 36th and 41st, respectively, at his position.
Besides Marquette, the PSA Cardinals summer standout is considering three other Big East schools — Providence, Seton Hall and St. John’s — along with Temple, UMass, Saint Louis, VCU, Arizona State, USC, Georgia Tech, Minnesota and UNLV.
“The school just has to be a good fit for me to play,” French told Scout’s Ryan James Monday. “I’m looking for a school that treats me like a family.”
French joins fellow forwards Theo John and Xavier Tillman as 2017 recruits to announce Marquette as one of their remaining schools. John will be deciding between Marquette, Oklahoma, Purdue, Illinois, California and Minnesota. Tillman’s prospective schools are Marquette, Purdue, Michigan State and Florida.
Other Recruiting News:
Wojciechowski offered 2017 forward Chase Johnson and 2018 guard Quentin Grimes this week.
Johnson, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Ripley, W.V., has already received interest from a slew of high-majors including Arizona, Florida, Vanderbilt and Virginia. Meanwhile, Grimes, a 6-foot-4 point guard, received an offer from Miami (Fla.) as well Tuesday. In July alone, Grimes picked up offers from Arizona, Kansas and several other Division I juggernauts.
With the much-coveted July evaluation periods over, other players besides French have trimmed their lists of prospective schools. Brandon Randolph and Malik Williams both released their final schools. Marquette did not make either cut.
Competition is rising for a number of Wojciechowski’s targets. Local prep standout Tyler Herro, who talked to the Wire during the NY2LA Summer Jam a few weeks ago, garnered an offer from his dream school, Arizona. Fellow 2018 in-state stud Joey Hauser racked up an offer from Purdue, the sixth Big Ten school to court him.
Class of 2017 target Jordan Nwora, who received an offer from Marquette last April, picked up an offer from California this week. Nwora has already earned offers from at least one member of each Power Five conference.
Per NCAA rules, players cannot take an official visit until the quiet period begins August 1. The earliest a player can have an in-home visit will be September 9.
