On the same day that Oregon football announced its hiring Mario Cristobal as co-offensive coordinator and run-game coordinator, the school also announced who he will share offensive coordinator duties with.
David Reaves will join Cristobal as co-offensive coordinator, tight ends coach and passing game coordinator.
Reaves spent four years working under new UO coach Willie Taggart at University of South Florida. In 2016 he was associate head coach and tight ends coach, but after Taggart was announced as head coach of Oregon, Reaves was offensive coordinator and called plays for USF’s bowl game against South Carolina. The Bulls posted 469 yards of total offense in a 46-39 win to cap off the team’s 11-2 season. In 2015 Reaves was the co-offensive coordinator and passing game coordinator. USF Quarterback Quinton Flowers set a school record with 22 passing touchdowns, 14 rushing touchdowns and a team best 3,287 yards of passing.
Before USF, Reaves assisted at South Carolina where had an opportunity to work under a pair of College Football coaching hall of famers, Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier. He spent two years as a graduate assistant before working as the defensive backs coach in 2004 and then assistant quarterbacks coach in 2005. Reaves was recruiting coordinator in 2006 and added quarterbacks coach to his recruiting duties in 2007 and 2008. In his first year as quarterbacks coach, the Gamecocks threw for more than 3,000 yards on the season, averaging 258.2 passing yards a game.
Reaves replaces Tom Osbourne who had coached at Oregon since 2007.
