Fire quickly extinguished at Eastshore Highway homeless encampment
Monday afternoon the Berkeley Fire Department, or BFD, responded to a fire at a large homeless encampment on the Eastshore Highway near Harrison Street, according to an email from BFD spokesperson and Assistant Chief Keith May.
May said that the first engine arrived at 3:45 p.m. and the fire was extinguished within a couple minutes of the fire crew’s arrival.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, according to May. The fire burned about 75 feet of the encampment and caused damage to part of the exterior portion of a U-Haul Storage facility.
