Cal football lands commitment from three-star defensive tackle Ricky Correia

A few days after snaring former Fresno State commit Jaden Casey to its 2020 recruiting class, Cal football made its mark on the Fresno community again.

On Friday morning, Fresno Central High School defensive tackle Ricky Correia announced his commitment to the Bears in a social media post, spurning three other Pac-12 programs who were also in pursuit of him.

Correia, a three-star defensive lineman who sat out most of his junior year with an injury, chose the Bears over Arizona, Colorado and Arizona State, among other programs. Cal defensive line coach Andrew Browning led the Bears’ effort to land Correia, who received his offer from Cal last week.

Standing at 6’4” and weighing in at 330 pounds, Correia has been primarily recruited as a nose tackle, a position that figures to be an open competition in Berkeley with the imminent departure of veteran Luc Bequette next season.

Last week, Correia was selected to represent the United States in the 2020 International Bowl.
