Stadium capacity at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium this football season will be limited to 50% for the time being, Texas Athletics Director Chris Del Conte wrote in an email to season ticket holders Monday.

“As we continue to work closely with the Governor’s office and follow state guidelines for social distancing, we anticipate seating at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium to be at a reduced capacity,” Del Conte said. “As of today, capacity is limited to 50 percent.”

Texas Athletics plans to give all season ticket holders an opportunity to retain their tickets under the 50% capacity limit, Del Conte said in the email. Season ticket holders may not be placed in their usual seats due to a unique reseating process for the 2020 season, Del Conte wrote, but Texas is working to place fans as close to their normal seats as possible.

Fans who opt out of season tickets for the 2020 Texas football season will not lose their Loyalty Point status or seating location for the 2021 season, according to the email. Although The Big Ticket, UT’s all-access student sports pass, is on sale, Del Conte and other University officials have not released any plans to accommodate students in regards to stadium seating.

Del Conte’s update comes as COVID-19 cases persist in Texas and after the Big 10, ACC and Pac-12 canceled out-of-conference play for the 2020 football season. As of now, the Longhorns are still preparing for the 2020 football season, Del Conte wrote, and will begin their campaign at home against South Florida on Sept. 5.
