Offensive lineman William Reed out of Eastside Catholic in Sammamish, Washington, announced his decommittment from Cal on Thursday evening.

The 6’6”, 280-pound tackle declared his intention to commit to Princeton in a post on Twitter and thanked both the Cal football program and the coaches at Princeton when explaining his decision.

“After many conversations with my family and looking at what is most important to me, I have decided to decommit from UC Berkeley. I have nothing but love for the Cal Family,” Reed said in his statement on Twitter. “That being said, I am proud to announce I am COMMITTING TO THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS AT PRINCETON.”

Reed is a three-star offensive tackle and one of the top 20 players in Washington, according to 247Sports. He is the first player to decommit from the Bears’ recruiting class of 2021, a class that is now ranked No. 21 in the country. Reed’s decision leaves three offensive linemen in the class: tackle Ryan Lange and offensive guards Dylan Jemtegaard and Bastian Swinney.

This offseason may feature more changes and altered decisions due to the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, but with the early signing period of the national letter of intent opening Dec. 16, players and programs alike will soon be on much surer footing.
