Amid a tense campus environment, Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education Joanne Brzinski wrote in an April 25 email to students that Emory College of Arts and Sciences classes would be virtual on Friday with the exception of CHEM 202L: Principles of Reactivity Lab.

Students should check Canvas for more information, according to Brzinski. 

The decision comes after the Emory Police Department arrested protestors who attempted to erect a “Gaza solidarity encampment” on Emory University’s Quadrangle this morning. The Atlanta Police Department and Georgia State Patrol helped EPD break up the demonstration.

A subsequent protest occurred late Thursday afternoon, with roughly 500 demonstrators assembling on the Quad and marching to the Candler School of Theology before returning to the Quad and dispersing.

However, Brzinski did not specify a reason for the change in her email to students.
