Feeling generous? Donate blood next week at Michigan Tech’s Fall 2024 American Red Cross Blood Drive. The Order of Omega will be hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sep. 4 and Sep. 5 in the MUB Ballroom.
Eligibility requirements for donating including frequency of donation, age, weight, and health, can be found on the Red Cross website. For those unable to donate, Michigan Tech provides other opportunities to serve in the Blood Drive. The American Red Cross recommends that anyone wishing to donate blood should make an appointment prior to the drive. Walk-in donations will be welcomed based on availability. According to students, the whole process is done in under an hour, and everyone involved is very kind.
Donating blood can help people of all ages who may be victims of various accidents, disease patients, and organ transplant patients. Jasper, a Michigan Tech student, said, “I love knowing I have chosen to help others in this way.” Taking part in a blood drive is a great way to help others, and you will also receive a free t-shirt.
Order of Omega, the hosting organization, is a club at Michigan Tech with the primary function of recognizing exemplary leadership, scholarship, and involvement in Fraternity and Sorority students. The organization also collaborates with Michigan Tech to host various events such as blood drives, Greek Weekend, and Greek Life Orientation. Order of Omega has always hosted the blood drive at Michigan Tech, collecting more than 9,000 units of blood over a period of 51 years. Analise from the Order of Omega said, “We appreciate all of the support and dedication from the students who make this drive possible.” According to Analise, the biggest issue with the blood drive is finding enough students who are willing to donate blood, so they are always encouraging students and their friends to come and donate.
