Police seeking help in two sexual abuse cases

By Daily Illini Staff Report

Two sexual abuse cases were reported in Champaign July 15 and 16. The Champaign police are looking for any information regarding a suspect believed to be involved in the cases.

On July 15, at 8:29 p.m., a 21 year-old female was at the area of Fourth and John Streets when approached by a Hispanic male on a bicycle who asked for directions and then fondled her and solicited her for sex. The suspect groped her again as she left the scene.

At 3:25 p.m. on July 16, two 14-year-old girls were near 45 E. University Ave and were approached by a man on a bicycle, groping one when he rode past.

Police were immediately contacted in both situations.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 25 and 35 between five and six feet tall with black hair, brown eyes and facial hair. The bicycle was said to be dark-colored with ‘thin’ tires. It was a regular bike.

The Champaign Police Department encourages pedestrians to be alert to their surroundings, make note of a suspect’s description and notify the police if ever approached by an offender.

Any tips can be reported to the Champaign Police Department, to Crime Stoppers or online.
