Music: So now we can all forget about the Grammys

And it sure had its fun moments — with the catchy chorus extraordinaires sweeping up several awards including Best Song and Best New Artist. You’d also know that it rained on them during their performance. You’d also remember Wiz Khalifa’s pointless performance, unless it was just a mere excuse to perform shirtless in a tuxedo at a “formal” gathering. Then, of course, there was Katy Perry’s cleavage-friendly dress.

This year’s broadcasted ceremony was more of a concert than anything else, with three and a half hours of a few fantastic performances interspersed among several dull ones. It rained on the band Fun. which was both awesome and a bit uncomfortable seeing as how they were performing with electric instruments, but lawsuits were avoided. The Black Keys delivered a somewhat underwhelming rendition of “Lonely Boy” with Dr. John and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. But Jack White, accompanied by both his male and female supporting cast, put on easily the best show of the night opening up with “Love Interruption” and segueing into a rocking rendition of “Freedom at 21″ complete with White in full rockstar regalia.

Some other notable winners included: Gotye and Kimbra, Record of the Year; Mumford and Sons, Album of the Year; The Black Keys, Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance; Skrillex, Best Dance Recording and Best Dance Album, all of which were well-deserved.

But the most satisfying aspect of it all is that we can forget about the Grammys for another year. Sure, it was nice to see stellar performances of the year’s best songs and it was equally nice to see great artists rewarded for their work, but as Gotye said in his acceptance speech, there are a lot of artists that are not recognized by the Grammys but who deserve the recognition. So, now that the Grammys have passed and the excitement fades, we can all be excited for our favorite artists to return to the studio or the road so we can enjoy them as we always have.
