After the first round at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship, the University of Oregon women’s golf team finished in 13th place in a pool of 18 teams. The Ducks are looking to improve upon their eighth-place finish from last season, but they will have to be at their best as they go face-to-face with some of better teams in the country.
In round one, the Ducks shot a 10-over 298 at the 6,105-yard, par-72 course and currently sit 12 spots behind Tulane, which recorded an impressive 6-under 282 finish. Duke and UCLA currently sit in a tie for second with 5-under 283.
Leading the way for the Ducks in the first round was Monica Petchakan, who finished the day with a 1-over 73 as she sits in a tie for 31st place. One stroke behind Petchakan was Cheyenne Burbank, who recorded a 2-over 74 to tie for 41st overall. Caroline Inglis finished in a tie for 54th place after shooting a 3-over 75.
Emily Penttila of Tulane led the way for all competitors with a 5-under 67 alongside her teammate Gemma Dryburgh, who finished just behind her with a 4-under 68 in a tie for second place. Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow finished the round with a 4-under 68 as well.
