On a usual night at the club, thousand-watt speakers blast music through the venue, reverberating off of walls and thumping in everyone’s chest. But for the rooftop crowd at Volume Lounge this Saturday, the party goes silent.

From the people who brought Charlotte the No Pants Light Rail Ride last January, (a charity event in which about 100 people rode the Lynx into Uptown without trousers) The Moxie Project will host a silent disco.

Participants will receive an .mp3 file via email to their smartphones during the night of the event. Then they will simultaneously play the 30-minute party track through headphones in flash mob fashion, thus creating a silent atmosphere when the headphones come off.

Charlotte is no stranger to silent discos with a series of them at the Pavillion in the Epicentre last summer, as well as one during last Halloween’s Grave Digger’s Ball. But the Moxie Project has a charitable goal.

“[We are] adding our own twist by adding social consciousness in a nightlife atmosphere,” said Yash Mori, founder of Simplx Designs which will provide media services for the event.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Doing My Part, a local crowd-funding charity that designates money for local projects that range from helping homeless children to mentoring kids with incarcerated parents.

Organizers encourage attendees to submit song requests to the event’s Facebook page.

There will be an after party with DJ Citron on deck spinning tracks for the rest of the night.

The silent disco begins at 11 p.m. on March 9. Participants must be 21 and over.

Tickets include entry, free dessert at Peculiar Rabbit, a free appetizer at Jackalope Jacks, a t-shirt and complimentary beverage.

UNC Charlotte students can receive a 20% discount on tickets using the promo code UNCCFollowtrain, which can be purchased at turnedupvolume.eventbrite.com.
