Zone Read AM: Kings to stay in Sacramento, Jackson pondering Toronto

The movement to relocate the Sacramento Kings to Seattle took a major hit on Monday when an NBA committee voted unanimously to reject the proposal to relocate the franchise.

Having long been the subject and scrutiny, the Kings seemed destined to head to Seattle and resurrect the Super Supersonic franchise that left the city and relocated to Oklahoma City.

While the bid for the resurrection of the Supersonics is not completely dead, things have definitely shifted in a major way to the Kings staying in Sacramento.

It appears as though Tim Tebow was the odd man out in the Big Apple. The polarizing quarterback was released on Monday morning by the New York Jets and is now looking for a place to call home for the 2013 season.

With the departure of Tebow the Jets now currently have five quarterbacks left on their roster, including struggling starter Mark Sanchez. Sanchez has been the subject of speculation for quite some months now and many experts are unsure if he will be the opening day starter.

Jets General Manager John Idzik has done little to endorse Sanchez, after taking West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith in the second round of the draft and saying that all five quarterbacks will compete to be the starter.

The news that in all likelihood the Sacramento Kings will not move to Seattle is beginning to ripple down into others areas of the NBA. In particular, now that the Seattle will probably be without a franchise for a little longer, the Toronto Raptors are making a stronger push to bring former Laker head coach Phil Jackson on as team president.

Jackson retired from the game a year ago and was then almost lured out of retirement by his old team, but in the end Los Angeles decided to go with Mike D’Antoni as their head man.

Since this initial interest, Jackson has expressed interest in coming back to the game, particularly in a front office capacity.
