The No.2 Oregon softball team fell yesterday to Arizona State, 3-2, in game one of their away series in Tempe. The series is the Ducks last of the regular season before heading into post-season play. Oregon had a six-game winning streak heading into the game.
Their two runs were due to the efforts of sophomore center fielder Janie Takeda, who had a two-run homer in the top of the third inning.
Senior pitcher Jessica Moore (24-2) struck out five, walked three and yielded six hits; additionally, all three of her runs allowed were earned.
Both teams face off again Friday in game two of the series. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m. and will be televised on Pac-12 Network.

Curtis Anderson of The Register-Guard features Oregon runner Laura Roesler as someone to watch as the Pac-12 Track and Field Championships kick off this weekend in Los Angeles, Calif.
She ran the world’s seventh-fastest 800 meters in 2 minutes and 1.75 seconds at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 18; also, she the reigning 800-meter champion from last year’s conference final.

Andy Katz of ESPN reports the NCAA men’s basketball rules committee took major steps in possibly having more replay at the end of regulation and overtime.
The proposal of more replay would be in hopes of ensuring that out-of-bounds and shot-clock violation calls were made correctly.
