Five-star recruit Eddie Vanderdoes enrolls at UCLA

Eddie Vanderdoes, a five-star defensive line recruit, has chosen not to attend Notre Dame and is going to instead pursue a future at UCLA.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 305 pound All-American defensive end out of Placer High School initially committed to Notre Dame, but in recent weeks there was speculation that he would no longer be headed to South Bend, Ind.

A statement released by Vanderdoes suggests that family commitments led him to pick a school closer to his home in Auburn, Calif.

He has not been officially released from his National Letter of Intent by the Fighting Irish, but he has enrolled at UCLA after Notre Dame lifted the recruiting ban on him. He will likely have to sit out a year before playing as a Bruin if he is not released from the letter of intent.

Brian Hamilton, a Notre Dame beat writer for the Chicago Tribune, tweeted that a Notre Dame spokesman said that Vanderdoes would not be released from his letter of intent, and that the school would have a comment later today.
