Facing “The Voice” Finale

It’s coming… The night we’ve all been waiting for. “The Voice” finale is looming ahead of us, and with it comes a barrage of questions: Who will win? What agonizing suspense do we face? And, most importantly, what am I going to do with my Monday and Tuesday nights once the final name is called?

Watching the amazing pool of talent dwindle in numbers each week, I wish sixteen Voices could be named next week instead of one. From Sarah Simmons to Amber Carrington to Sasha Allan, “The Voice” has never had such an overall number of talented people … It seemed impossible (and heartbreaking) to go from eight contestants, to six, to five, to three.

Yet here we are, with the top three contestants in front of us: Michelle Chamuel, The Swon Brothers, and Danielle Bradbery. Three very talented contestants who excel at their own styles, and one blog to do them justice. Here we go.

Michelle Chamuel (Team Usher) may be scrawny, but she has a powerful set of pipes. She invests herself completely in each performance, often crouching on the ground to belt her heart out. She’s attacked multiple genres with strength, wowing the audience each time with her vocal abilities.

I have to say she’s probably last on my list – I’ve grown tired of the sappy songs that overwhelm her repertoire, highlighting the importance of embracing being different. Plus, the love fest between her and Usher has become slightly nauseating, though I did enjoy the sight of Usher wearing hipster glasses in support of her. However, I admire Michelle’s humbleness; each week, she seems as though her mind is blown that she is continuing on.  I like her as a person (as generic as that sounds), so I won’t mind if she wins.

Team Blake’s the Swon Brothers are the underdogs of the season. I wrote them off at first glance, but they have grown on me so that I’ve cheered every time they’ve made a cut. If my sister’s infatuation with them is at all telling, then I’m guessing they have the ladies’ vote every week – combined, they are funny and cute, always at ease on the stage and ready to have a good time.

The first duo to ever make it to live rounds and beyond, the Swon Brothers’ harmonies are what make them stand out. I’ve posted my two favorite songs of theirs below so that you can treat your ears.

Next on the list is Danielle Bradbery, the youngest contestant of the season at age sixteen. In my opinion, Danielle (Team Blake) is the person to beat. She is pitch-perfect each night, effortlessly delivering songs with the technique that belongs to a person twice her age.

It’s rare for a person to start out the season strong and continue to excel, but Danielle has remained steadily brilliant, ending each song with a small, trademark smile that says, “Phew, I did it again!” She’s topped ITunes charts each week; clearly, she has a voice people want to hear. I’m crossing my fingers for her.

I know some of my friends are planning on boycotting the Voice finale; the emphasis on country music has probably disgusted more viewers than I’d care to admit. Personally, I’ve been extremely happy to see country music take off this season – as a Texan, country music is in my blood. I’m not the only one enjoying the Voice-country revolution: Shakira and Usher both confessed that their view of country music has been radically transformed.

So let’s go into the finale with some deep breaths and an open mind, people. Each of the three finalists are talented, good people, and deserve a Voice win.

See you after the finale.
