Zone Read: ESPN airs ‘Carry On’ and Oregon women’s soccer snatches a member of Big 12′s winning squad

A trio of Oregon Ducks were named to postseason award watch lists Monday. Quarterback Marcus Mariota and running back De’Anthony Thomas were named to the Maxwell award watch list, an award given to the best college football player in the nation. Thomas was a finalist for the Maxwell award in 2012. Cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu made the watch list for the Bednarik award which is given to the best defensive player in the nation.

The Oregon women’s soccer team head coach Kat Mertz announced Monday that Mia Gunter, a defender that spent her freshman year at West Virginia, is transferring to Oregon. Gunter was a part of a Mountaineers team last season that won the Big 12 conference title. Gunter, a native of Alberta, Canada, had one assist for West Virginia last season.

After a 2009 Outside the Lines report on the bond between high school wrestling teammates Leroy Sutton and Dartanyon Crockett, ESPN producer Lisa Fenn couldn’t bring herself to end the story when the cameras stopped rolling. Fenn left ESPN shortly after the story to help Sutton, who is a double amputee, and Crockett, who is legally blind, further pursue their dreams. “Carry On” is an insight into the incredible human spirit that can come from determination and a little support.
