Several streets were closed in Eugene as the 3rd annual Rolf Prima Downtown Criterium took place Sunday afternoon. The event is a downtown bike race where the riders race to complete short, quick laps. This year’s winner was Kevin Selker. Selker grew up in Eugene, attending South Eugene High School in 2003 before moving away. To claim the victory, Selker broke away from the 28-man peloton with a group of five other riders. He then outraced the others to win the race. Selker plans to return to Eugene next year to defend his title if the race is able to continue for a fourth year.

Major League Baseball has suspended yet another player. Ryan Braun, slugger for the Milwaukee Brewers, will sit out the rest of the season without pay. Braun doesn’t plan to contest the suspension, which comes after he violated the MLB’s drug policies. Of the 65 games Braun will miss, 50 of them were due to his connection with Biogenesis while the other 15 come thanks to his actions during the investigation. This suspension serves as Braun’s first violation of the league’s drug policy. Braun is just the first player in a long list to be suspended in connection with the Biogenesis scandal. Biogenesis was a closed anti-aging clinic in Florida which was discovered to be a pipeline for illegal performance enhancing drugs. The league plans on handing out more suspensions to players soon, including one to Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees.
