The Eugene Emeralds got of to an eerily similar but bad start to the 2nd half of their season on Tuesday losing to the Boise Hawks by a score of 6-0. Boise starting pitcher Dillon Maples, who missed much of his first professional season with a strained ligament in his throwing arm, received his first professional win by striking out seven over 5 innings pitched. The Hawks got two home runs in the fourth off Michael Kelly, a first round pick of the Padres in 2011. The loss drops the Ems’ to a dismal 13-26 record on the season.

Despite Ryan Braun being suspended for the remainder of the 2013 season due to use of performance enhancing drugs, Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp believes that Braun’s 2011 National League MVP award should be forfeited. Kemp was the runner-up to Braun that season and he believes if Braun’s performance that season was credited to his use of steroids, that the 2011 MVP award is tainted and should be turned over to Kemp. Braun finished with 20 first place votes while Kemp only received 10. Many players, including Kemp, feel that Braun betrayed them and the inner trust involved in the fraternity of Major League Baseball.
