In just her second year as head coach, she took her team to its first Final Four appearance in school history and won a conference title. Now, she’s wrapped up with Cal for the next three seasons.

Lindsay Gottlieb signed a contract extension on Thursday that will make her a Bear through the 2017-18 season.

“I am thrilled to sign this extension with the University of California, and I am beyond grateful for the belief in me demonstrated by Sandy Barbour and Chancellor Dirks,” Gottlieb said in a statement to Cal Athletics.

While no contract details have been released, the extension comes a year early, as Gottlieb still had a season left under her old contract — showing the faith that the athletics department has in her leadership.

“I personally want her to be a Bear for a very long time, and I know that I represent our student athletes, administration and community in that sentiment,” said Cal athletic director Sandy Barbour.

Last year, the Bears put up a 32-4 record — the best ever for the 39-year old program.

“We have built something special in Berkeley,” Gottlieb said, “and the staff and team are hard at work to make sure this is only the beginning.”
