Memorable moments in Oregon’s 55-16 victory over Cal

However, the same couldn’t be said for the Ducks’ offense, who put up 27 points in the first quarter. In addition, for the first time in school history, Oregon scored 50-plus points in four consecutive games. Here are some of the most memorable moments from last night’s Pac-12 matchup.

First quarter

Simply put, the weather was ridiculous. As a result, there were a total of eight fumbles in the first quarter. To Oregon’s advantage, the Ducks were able to recover three of the four fumbles. On the other hand, the Golden Bears weren’t so lucky, committing four turnovers off fumbles and putting up zero points in the first quarter. Cal’s freshman quarterback Jared Goff was benched toward the end of the first quarter and backup Zach Kline came in for the Golden Bears.

Bralon Addison’s two TD punt returns

Bralon Addison’s athleticism shined in yesterday’s game, as the wide receiver returned two punts for touchdowns. Addison is only the second Duck to ever do that; the first was Cliff Harris in 2010 against New Mexico. After the game, head coach Mark Helfrich stated that Addison’s performance was huge and defiantly set the tone for the second half. Helfrich also credited the blocking and the overall team effort, which were things they talked about a lot last week.

“It’s a great feeling,” Addison said. “Guys did a great job of blocking down field on the punt return…and we finally got into the end zone.”

Byron Marshall stepping up

When De’Anthony Thomas was sidelined with an ankle injury yesterday, Byron Marshall stepped in. Although it was a shaky start for the sophomore running back, who fumbled the ball three times in the first quarter, he finished the game with a career-high in rushing yards with 130. In the post-game interviews, Marshall said himself that he was surprised with how many touches he got, but said even when Thomas went down he felt prepared.

“My mentality never changes,” Marshall said. “The fact that he (Thomas) went down there early I just knew my role was just going to get bumped up a little more than it normally was.”
