Doug the Oregon Athletic Bands president and marching band trombone section leader. He works hard to make sure the band is happy and well funded.

Why are you at the UO?

I wanted to find a college with both variety and quality in academics, as well as great athletics teams, an excellent band, and one in the Pacific Northwest. The UO filled all of those categories and more.

How do you want to change the world?

If I were to change the world in one way, I would hope that it would be as an example of patience, thoughtfulness, and commitment. The most powerful change is a personal change, so I hope that as I strive to follow my values, I can inspire others to be the best versions of themselves as well.

What has been the best part of your college experience?

My time with the Oregon Marching Band has defined my time at the UO. In this university that prides itself on diversity, there is no more diverse and open group than the marching band. It has been an education in the best way possible.

What are you proud to have been a part of at UO?

Again, I am extremely proud to have been in the marching band. I have been able to be a part of all sorts of opportunities both on campus and around the country representing the UO, and I could not be more proud of the people who surround me and the experiences we create.

What are some of your goals after you earn your degree?

In the modern job market, my goals are as simple as finding a job I enjoy in a city that I like. Eventually, I would like to find a job teaching at a high school, because that is one of the most crucial and powerful points in anyone’s education, so I would have an opportunity to help a lot of kids.

What groups are you associated with on campus?

I have been a part of the Oregon Marching Band and the Oregon Athletic Bands Council, which is the student council that serves the marching band. I’m also in the Clark Honors College and outside of that, I just try to enjoy time with my friends.

What positions do you hold in those organizations?

Oregon Marching Band – Trombone section leader

Oregon Athletic Bands Council – President

Clark Honors College – just another student
