Ranking seventh in personal bests among the Group A competitors at 39.61 meters, Ashlee Moore was merely looking to stay relevant heading into the 800 meter heptathlon finale. Moore, who dropped to seventh overall, finished eighth in the heptathlon javelin throw with a 39.95 meter finish.
Her personal best heading into the IAAF World Junior Championships was 39.61 meters.
For Moore, the 800 meters will be about finishing strong. With Nadine Visser, who currently ranks third, ahead by 349 points, Moore’s podium hopes are now over.
Moore did place top two in the 100 meter hurdles and long jump, but it doesn’t look like the U.S. heptathlon champion will get the top three finish she was likely looking for.
However, Moore holds a 2:29.68 personal best time in the 800 meters and has the chance to finish on in the top 10.
Currently atop of the heptathlon leaderboard are Great Britain’s Morgan Lake (5339), Cuba’s Yorgelis Rodríguez and Netherlands’ Vesser ( 5142). Lake will enter the final event with a 138 point lead, which translates to 9.8 seconds in the 800 meters.
