USAC Recap – Aug. 20

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. During the summer, council meetings generally take place biweekly on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students. Watch a live stream of the meeting on the USAC Live! Agenda

  • The council unanimously approved contingency allocations.

Officer Reports

  • A proxy for External Vice President Conrad Contreras said he attended the University of California Student Association Congress meeting and spoke about recent campaigns by the association and the United States Student Association.
  • Student Wellness Commissioner Savannah Badalich said that she and the USAC Office of the President are partnering together on a mental health campaign this school year and that she plans to meet with every councilmember about it. She added that she plans to package UConsent, a new UCSA campaign against sexual assault and harassment, with the 7000 in Solidarity campaign she started last school year. Badalich also discussed the recent investigation into possible Title IX violations at UCLA.
  • Cultural Affairs Commissioner Irmary Garcia encouraged other councilmembers to attend a vigil in solidarity with victims of police brutality at 7 p.m. Thursday in front of Kerckhoff Hall.

Appointments

  • Jonathan Tam, a third-year atmospheric, oceanic and environmental sciences student, was appointed to the­ Community Activities Committee with a 6-0-1 vote.
