Chris Petersen staying at Boise State

BOISE, Idaho — The Boise State athletics department just released an official statement saying Chris Petersen will remain BSU’s head football coach and that Petersen has hired two assistant coaches.

Brent Pease will return as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach after previously deciding to leave BSU and become part of the University of Indiana’s coaching staff.

Robert Prince, a former BSU wide receivers coach under Dan Hawkins from 2001-02, has also returned to the Broncos after coaching in the NFL from 2005-09 to coach the wide receivers and serve as the pass game coordinator.

“I can’t express enough how happy we are to have two outstanding coaches back on our staff,” Petersen said. “Brent (Pease) has played an important role in our success the past five years and having him take over the direction of the offense is a major plus as we move forward at Boise State.”

Pease replaces former Boise State offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin who left the Broncos last week to become co-offensive coordinator at the University of Texas.

“I’m very honored and fortunate to be able to return to Boise State,” Pease said. “While I was very much looking forward to the opportunity at Indiana, the knowledge and relationships I have with the players, coaches and administration at Boise State made it a very logical choice for me and my family.”

Prince replaced Pease as wide receivers coach and shouldn’t have any problem feeling right at home. Prince worked with Petersen during his last stint at Boise State, which essentially helped lay the foundation for what is now Boise State football.

“It’s great to be back at Boise State and working again with coach Petersen,” Prince said. “Having closely followed the team’s success since I left Boise and I’m very excited about the opportunity to coach the Broncos again.  I’ve known coach Pete a long time and our philosophies are a lot alike. It’s a natural fit for me.”
