Helfrich discusses Oregon’s NFL draft prospects, lacrosse heads to MPSF playoffs

— With the NFL draft beginning Thursday, head coach Mark Helfrich discussed prospects DeForest Buckner and Vernon Adams.   “They’re great kids. DeForest is a great example of that — just a great person who will make your franchise better,” Helfrich said.

— Oregon lacrosse is set to head to the MPSF playoffs against Colorado on Thursday.  The team currently holds a record of 4-5 which they used to secured the sixth and final spot in the playoffs.

Oregon volleyball posted a perfect APR score for the third year in a row.  The team earned a perfect score of 1,000. Programs must earn 930 or better over a four-year period  to remain eligible for the postseason.

This year’s International Champions Cup match will be held at Autzen Stadium this summer, which will likely bring media attention and many fans to Eugene.

“Obviously there’s an economic impact benefit,” UO athletic director Rub Mullens said. “But for us in the community of Eugene, it’s another opportunity to introduce something: an A-level international soccer match for our community.”

— After falling to UCLA is three straight games last weekend, Oregon will take on Washington State this weekend.  A 13-1 loss on the final day of the series against the Bruins has the Ducks looking for redemption.

— With two home-meets out of the way, Oregon track and field is hitting the road this weekend. But in a turn from the usual focus on distance, sprinters have made a name for themselves, especially this season. 

“Oregon isn’t necessarily known for the [sprints] over our history,” head coach Robert Johnson said. “So, I think what we’re doing here in that event area is special.”

— An article from the Oregonian reports that women’s track and field is “in a three-way fight for the women’s NCAA title.” Arkansas and Texas will be the teams to watch for the Ducks this season.
