Nortey signs with Danish club Akademisk Boldklub

One of Marquette soccer’s most prolific scorers has finally found a home.

C. Nortey officially signed with Akademisk Boldklub, a team in the Danish First Division, after the Ghanaian-born striker trained with the team for five weeks.

“It feels good. Has definitely been a long time coming,” Nortey told GoMarquette.com.

“Even though it took some time, I knew he would eventually be a professional soccer player as well as a graduate of Marquette University. I’m so proud,” Marquette head coach Louis Bennett told GoMarquette.com. “He’s a hard-worker and after what he was able to do at Marquette, it’s hugely important for him to get where he needs to go.”

Nortey graduated as sixth on Marquette’s all-time scoring list with 69 points on 30 goals and nine assists. He holds the program record for game winning goals with eight.

AB has won the Danish Superliga nine times, most recently in 1967, and the Danish Cup in 1999. He’ll wear No. 30 for the team.

He attended the MLS Combine earlier this year following his graduation, but was surprisingly not selected despite his projection as a second-round pick by multiple mock drafts.

Nortey had a quiet senior season by his standard, scoring a career low four goals for the Golden Eagles. His 11 points were good for second on the team, only behind Kelmend Islami.
