“All the first-years live in Hedrick,” is a hackneyed statement many incoming first-year students hear when they’re finding out more about UCLA, scouring the pages of Facebook groups and College Confidential.

It’s a given that Hedrick Hall is filled with first-year students due to its distance from campus. However, the student demographics of the other halls aren’t widely known, and are usually just hearsay.

At UCLA, there are more women than men in every hall, reflecting a nationwide trend of more women enrolled in college than men.

Unsurprisingly, the classic halls Hedrick and Rieber house the greatest percentages of first-year students. On the other hand, only half of Dykstra’s residents are first-year students. Sproul Hall and Sproul Landing and Cove are the only halls in which the majority of residents are second-year students.
