Roads reopen after damaged fire hydrant blocks traffic on Northside
Roads have been reopened after traffic on the 2700 block of Hearst Avenue was blocked in both directions because of a damaged fire hydrant, according to a Nixle alert released by the University of California Police Department, or UCPD, on Saturday evening.
At about 5:36 p.m., a car crashed into the hydrant, according to UCPD corporal Stephen Burcham. The driver was arrested, and nobody was injured.
After the hydrant was hit, water pooled into Foothill and Stern, which caused water damage and flooding, according to Burcham. The Foothill dining hall, however, was likely unaffected.
Burcham added that the extent and nature of the water damage is still being assessed.
As of about 9 p.m., the area has been reopened to all traffic, and the water has been shut off.
