UCPD holds cleanup at People’s Park
Officers from UCPD conducted a cleanup at People’s Park at about 7 p.m. on Friday.
According to People’s Park Committee member Lisa Teague, about 40 officers brought moving boxes and a moving truck to the park to pack up “unclaimed” property. They removed unsupervised tents and filmed their processes, Teague said. She added that about 10 full, black trash bags were thrown away. Some people living in People’s Park were able to relocate across the street on Bowditch Street.
“They were extremely organized,” Teague said in an email. “The police and movers were fairly polite throughout. They got a little snappish at observers with cameras.”
Teague added that the police informed people that belongings could be claimed at UCPD on Tuesday or in Richmond.
According to UCPD spokesperson Sgt. Nicolas Hernandez, no one was arrested and there were no incidents to report.
