All in the family: Fatuvalu Iosefa is latest addition to Cal football 2021 recruiting class

The Bears continue to add to their 2021 recruiting class amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest member of that class, Fatuvalu Iosefa, announced his commitment to Cal on Friday afternoon.

Listed as both a safety and a cornerback, Iosefa is rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and hails from Mililani, Hawaii. The defensive back is by no means unfamiliar with Cal or college football, however — his older brother Jordan Iosefa is a redshirt senior inside linebacker at USC, while middle sibling Muelu Iosefa enrolled at Cal in January and will play outside linebacker for the blue and gold.

Both Muelu and Fatuvalu Iosefa were recruited by defensive coordinator and linebacker coach Peter Sirmon, but new defensive backs coach Marcel Yates also had a hand in bringing Fatuvalu Iosefa to Cal. The 6’0” Hawaiian will join a talented defensive backs unit, which recently saw starting safeties Ashtyn Davis and Jaylinn Hawkins selected in the first four rounds of the NFL draft.

Yates has now added three defensive backs to Cal’s 2021 recruiting class, and while none of the three rank in the nation’s top 500 recruits, according to 247Sports, all of them are rangy and athletic and carry with them loads of potential.

Fatuvalu Iosefa brings intelligence to a Bears defense that has been highly regarded under head coach Justin Wilcox, and chose Cal over multiple other Division I programs, including Nebraska and Oregon State.
