Is Your Campus Haunted?

A different type of tour, known as a Haunted Tour, is being hosted for UO students and Eugene residents, rather than prospective high school students. These tours will present the opportunity to learn more about the spooky events that have occurred on the University of Oregon’s campus, accompanied by the eerie ambiance of campus after dark.

Ally Thomas, one of the student coordinators for the student ambassador program, has shared a few details about these tours. “Haunted Tours take place at nightfall and happen many times throughout the year, however for this spooky season specifically, our ambassadors will be hosting them on October 25 and 31!”

Along with details for this month’s tours, Thomas touched on her experience with these events and why they mean so much to her. “I’ve been giving haunted tours for two years now, and my favorite part about giving them is fostering that spooky October spirit,” she said. “I also love telling everyone about all of the ghost stories that have happened on campus, as well as being able to interact with the campus community as well as the Eugene area in general.”

A student who participated in one of the previously scheduled Haunted Tours, Isabella Thomas, reflected on her experience. “I really loved my Haunted Tour! Walking around campus after dark was super cool and getting to learn more about the ghosts that we have living on campus was so spooky,” she said. “I hope I get to go on one of the Haunted Tours coming up soon. The last one was so fun, I’d love to go again!”

These tours will be given by a group of university student ambassadors who have been trained for this unique tour route and script that informs students about all of the spooky events that have happened on campus. The tours usually last around 45 minutes and take guests on a shortened version of the typical campus tour. Rather than touching on the academic side of the school, the tour guides will give guests an overview of certain buildings and the ghastly activities that may have occurred within their walls.

Haunted Tours are unique events that are highly recommended by the student ambassador program. Because they allow anyone in the Eugene area to attend, they are a perfect way to learn more about the school while connecting with parts of the community that typically aren’t available to residents of the city. There are a limited number of spots available for each tour, so if there are any interested parties, it is recommended that you sign up through the university’s website under the events category as soon as possible.
