On Oct. 23, USG held their weekly meeting. They discussed a mental health training program, the early voting event, and electing a treasurer and parliamentarian. 

Josh Carlson started by presenting a program called Peer Awareness for Well-being and Support, also known as PAWS. PAWS is a program designed to help students recognize when a peer is showing signs of a mental health crisis and give the best support possible. The core elements of the program are peer connection, awareness and knowledge, well-being perspectives, and support skills. The program has one-hour sessions weekly for 6 weeks with 10-15 participants. Participants need to be nominated; the nomination form can be found on the MTU PAWS website. Huskies Vote Early day is on Sunday, Nov. 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a tabling event with a prize wheel at Lot 14, near the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. During this event, a shuttle will take students to and from the Houghton City Center. If anyone has any questions about voting, please stop by USG’s office during office hours or email USG at usg@mtu.edu.  

Due to high demand, USG is adding a third break bus going to lower Michigan. 

Owen Gorter, treasurer of USG, resigned, explaining that he doesn’t have the time to fulfill the treasurer position; his resignation was accepted. Isobel Bowker was elected to fill the position and David Reeves was elected to replace Bowker as parliamentarian.
